Bodie, California

Don't expect fine dining, a nice place to sleep, or even a paved road as Bodie may be the most well preserved ghost town in America. At one time, home to 10,000 people, the town has fallen into decay. Luckily the state decided it was worth preserving and now makes a most unusual trip. Located north of Yosemite, Bodie is open all year but the only approach during the snowy winter months is via snowmobile or skis.
