Their motto is "welcome ot the middle of Nevada" which is a play on the just as accurate: Welcome to the middle of nowhere. Austin might be described as a living ghost town with much of it left as it was back in the silver rush but with a few stores and restaurants and living residents. Austin is a great stop off on America's loniest highway. Check out the Historical Society's museum and Stokes Castle, a three story granite structure just outside of town.
