Sperryville, Virginia
Past the western reaches of the Washington DC suburbs but still east of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Sperryville sits waiting to be found. My fondest memories were of a diner called the Pig Out or Pig Heaven or something like that and a B&B where I was kept up all night by crickets, in the room. The innkeeper's solution? A can of bug spray. I hear she also had a friend of mine (who had previously stayed there) help her move furniture. That was back in the 90's. Sperryville has come quite a bit farther. At least there's stuff to do. And it is very pretty. (This photo is of Old Rag Photography, from their website. - what a charming building). Don't miss Rappahannock's other big draw the little village of Washington
