Grafton, Vermont

This exceptionally hidden Vermont gem, was renamed Grafton in 1791. Directly east of Manchester but not in a straight line, and west of I-91 but not a quick ride, Grafton slept for most of its recent history. In the 1960s, the Windham Foundation was created to preserve much of the architecture and today, this is a fully preserved New England village full of artists, professionals, retirees and local farmers. I remember it often when sitting at my kitchen table (purchased from an attic at a local antique store). Stay at one of the fine hotels, including the Old Tavern, check out the museums run by the Grafton Historical Society, and don't forget to stop at the Grafton Village Cheese Co. Oh, and the kitchen table? It's from Grafton Gathering Place Antiques
