It was sad to move away from a beautiful house, but the new (old) one is going to become just as wonderful...probably better. The new place has something that the old one didn't. Space. A lot of it. Each day I walk around, and I can't believe how much there is. (Especially last night when I mowed a part of the lawn that Gerry had been mowing since we moved in.) To some people I guess 1.5 acres doesn't seem like a lot. The old place had a third of an acre and it was mostly unusable hillside/woodland. The new offers open, level, sunny space and some sloping sunny spots. It also has woods and a stream (complete with a small waterfall). I'm using this summer to plan where some things will be planted next year. Of course, I've already changed the location of the vegetable garden about five times now. I limited myself to only putting in a few annuals and some perennials that can be moved around easily. So, I'll be spending the rest of the summer looking at gardening books/catalogs, visiting some gardens, and generally getting ideas. I would like to start a perennial border by the end of the summer. That's if the weather cooperates!
