Williamstown, Massachusetts
Most of the Berkshires hype centers on the southern half of the county, south of Pittsfield. But in recent years, the northern towns have started to come into their own. Urban, slightly run down towns like Adams and North Adams have started to come alive with artists, galleries and musuems. But one town in the Northern Berkshires has been wonderful seemingly forever. Williamstown, in the northwest corner of the state has dubbed itself "The Village Beautiful" and they're not lying. With a small downtown, there isn't much to do except stroll the beautiful neigbhorhoods or walk the Williams College campus. However, cultural opportunities abound, in addition to the college, the Williamstown hosts a Theater Festival, Jazz Festival and Film Festival. Next door in North Adams, Mass Moca provides a home for contemporary arts.
